Captain's Note by Top Notch Marine Staff:
A test of a Starcraft SVX 191 boat with a Suzuki 140 horsepower outboard motor would likely show a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency, with the boat readily reaching planing speeds and offering a comfortable ride while still maintaining decent top speed, making it a suitable choice for recreational boating activities like tubing, fishing, and cruising; however, some might find the power slightly limited for heavier loads or high-speed runs.
-
The 140 horsepower should be sufficient to quickly get the SVX 191 onto plane, allowing for a smooth transition from idling to cruising speed.
-
While not the fastest option, the Suzuki 140 should still provide a more than respectable top speed for most recreational boating needs. New boaters often over-estimate their need for speed. Generally cruising speed is 25 to 30 mph with much of the power remaining untapped.
-
Suzuki outboards are often praised for their fuel economy, which can be beneficial for longer outings. Heck, anyone can appreciate saving fuel, even on short runs.
-
The SVX 191 is generally considered to be a well-handling boat as well as a boat that moves efficiently through the water making it easy to maneuver.
- Heavy loads: If you plan to regularly carry a large number of passengers (6 or more) or heavy gear, the 140 horsepower might feel underpowered at times. When considering a normal load of 4-5 persons and gear the 140 is just fine.
- High-speed cruising: For extended periods of high-speed operation (above 40 mph), a more powerful engine might be preferable.
