Daniel K Review Response

Response to a review by Conner Mcleod aka Daniel K…

Review:

Brought a part of my motor in to their Melbourne Service dept. They are extremely polite when you come in and tell you that the fix is something they regularly work on. Fast forward to weeks later, they completely destroyed my part, but it wasnt their fault because it was “corroded” there was less corrosion on this engine then the new ones in his showroom. The owner greeted me when i came to resolve the situation, along with 3 of his workers who berated me, told me i was trying to get them to do their job for free… no Jim i wasnt looking to get anything for free that’s why i brought it to what looked like a real shop, at first. they tossed my motor outside and said it was not their problem and went as far as threaten me with; if i write a review on my experience he will sue me. You’ve been warned do not business with this place or you will be writing the next review

Response:

Please understand this man’s gear case was 37 years old!

Mr K. brought his gear case only (without the boat and engine) to us and asked if we would fix it for him as he could not find another shop that would work on such an old item. Ann Marie our service manager felt bad for him and accepted the job. Mr. K. was told upfront verbally and in writing (which he signed) that this job was “high risk” because of the age of the gear case and it would be billed at time and materials only.

We were told to fix it and we ordered the parts. When the parts arrived, we began to work on the gear case. When installing a seal, the bearing carrier cracked because it was previously cracked and work (see pics). We called and offered to show him how severe corrosion caused his gear case to crack while resealing it and he did not want to see it. He said he had another case that we could use for parts and brought another 37 year old gear case to us. Upon inspection there was no way we could make 2 badly worn and corroded gear cases into 1 good one. He loudly demanded we make one good gear case out of 2 bad gear cases. I had 2 technicians trying to explain why this made no sense but he would not stop insisting he was a marine mechanic and we were wrong. He even said he could disassemble it with air pressure… (one problem, leaking seals would not allow any pressure to build) and besides this is unheard of to any experienced marine mechanic. I told him this could not be done because there were no good parts on either gear case to combine and he became very irate. At that point he was babbling nonsensically and in incomplete sentences. He had no idea how to make these repairs or what was involved yet told us we didn’t know what we were doing. I saw no other solution but to give him his gear cases back. I did so at no charge to him and absorbed the loss of $280.00 we put in time and materials into the job.

Please look for yourself at the pics of his “there was less corrosion on this engine then the new ones in his showroom.” below and judge for yourself…

The engine was a 1982-1984 OMC 60 hp…. 37 years old!

Gearcase 1 (to be repaired)…

As you can see… massive corrosion damage everywhere…

Gearcase 2 (the spare parts)… notice the snapped off drive shaft.
