Starcraft SV J9 SS vs. Yamaha AR195: Which Jet Boat Makes Saturday More Fun?

It’s a beautiful Saturday morning. The forecast looks good, the family is finally free, and someone asks, “What should we do today?”

You could suggest yard work. That ought to buy you a few minutes of silence.

Or you could pack a cooler, invite the grandparents, and head for the water. By lunchtime, the kids are swimming, someone has claimed the best lounging spot, and the whole family is together without a screen in sight.

That’s the day we have in mind when comparing the 2027 Starcraft SV J9 SS with the 2026 Yamaha AR195. Both are capable jet boats that can make great family memories. But if your ideal day is built around room to gather, an open layout, and strong value, the Starcraft makes a particularly compelling choice.

Starcraft SV J9 SS vs. Yamaha AR195: Quick Comparison

Specifications are manufacturer-published figures and may vary by year and configuration. Check the equipment and capacity plate on the specific boat.

What Happens After You Reach the Sandbar?

The boats are almost the same length. The meaningful difference is how you want to spend your time aboard.

The Starcraft SV J9 SS brings an open deck boat feel to jet boating. It invites people to settle in, talk, pass around lunch, and enjoy being on the water together. That matters because the best part of most family outings isn’t the quick run from the ramp. It’s the hours that follow.

The Yamaha AR195 offers a sportier look, a windshield, and a watersports tower. If those features top your shopping list, it deserves consideration. But if you’re picturing a relaxed afternoon with the family spread out and enjoying the boat, we favor the Starcraft’s open, social layout.

Jet Boat Excitement for the Whole Crew

Both boats use jet propulsion, so neither has an exposed propeller at the stern. That’s one reason families are drawn to this style of boat for swimming and watersports. As always, shut off the engine before anyone enters or exits the water, and keep everyone clear of the jet intake.

The J9 SS combines that jet boat experience with Rotax power and a deck boat designed around family use. Starcraft lists a 300 HP motor and trailer package for the model. Confirm the engine and equipment on the particular J9 SS you’re considering.

Is the Starcraft SV J9 SS a Better Value?

At the time of writing, Top Notch Marine lists a new 2027 Starcraft SV J9 SS for $47,415. The 2026 Yamaha AR195 has been advertised with a starting MSRP of $49,999, though individual Yamaha dealers may offer discounts.

Those figures are a specific Starcraft sale price and a Yamaha starting MSRP, so they are not an equal quote comparison. Ask for written, itemized prices on the exact boats, including their trailers, equipment, taxes, and applicable fees. The Starcraft’s current local price gives families a very good reason to come see it.

Which Jet Boat Would We Choose?

The Yamaha AR195 is a capable sport boat with a tower, a windshield, and a larger fuel tank. For a buyer focused on those features, it may be the right fit.

For a family whose perfect day includes cruising, swimming, sharing lunch, and making room for everyone to join the fun, we’d choose the Starcraft SV J9 SS. Its welcoming deck boat layout wins us over, and the price of the boat currently listed at Top Notch Marine makes the decision even sweeter.
